McPhee shares the same origin with Mel B. He also comes from her hometown Leeds, a northern city in the UK, where she returned to live in 2019 after having been in LA for 15 years. In addition to joining his family business, he is also a hairdresser and has his own salon in the city – Rory James Salon.
The singer’s various fabulous hairstyles in recent years are no doubt thanks to McPhee, as she once called him her “favourite blower in the UK” on Instagram.

But McPhee isn’t just a random hairdresser that Mel B happened upon. They have known each other for years, as he is a long-time friend of her family: he is the best friend of her cousin, actor Christian Cooke, per British media, so the pair met and hung out many times before sparks flew between them a few years ago.

However, McPhee doesn’t seem interested in the attention that stems from having a romance with a global star like Mel B. They rarely appear together in public and there are no photos of them together as a couple on his social media, just a few of her solo or with her friends, or of him working on her hair.
He also mostly keeps his personal life private. There are only a few pictures of him hanging out with friends on his Instagram, while others are show off his hair styling work.

McPhee went down on one knee to propose to Mel B during a classic romantic dinner at luxury country hotel Cliveden House in Berkshire, per British media. Of course, he had a gorgeous ring ready too. She was reportedly thrilled by the champagne-coloured, pear-shaped diamond on its rose gold band, which is reportedly worth US$113,000. More importantly, she did not have to pay for it like she did for her last wedding.
