Sennheiser Launches Big Sounding Ambeo Mini Soundbar

What's better than a Sennheiser soundbar? A Sennheiser soundbar that fits into any setup.

Legendary audio outfit Sennheiser has shrunk its Ambeo Soundbar Plus, cutting it in half to create the pint-sized Ambeo Soundbar Mini—a soundbar with 7.1.4 virtualization that will match any room and any configuration.

Sennheiser has cut the Ambeo in half, but does still deliver the full sound?

Sennheiser Launches New Ambeo Soundbar Mini; What's in a Name?

Here at IFA 2023, Sennheiser has launched its new Ambeo Soundbar Mini, a cut-down size of its award-winning Ambeo Soundbar Plus. Before we get into the depths of what the Ambeo Mini is about, consider the naming scheme here for a minute.

When the first Ambeo Soundbar launched in 2019, it was named the "Sennheiser Ambeo Dolby Atmos Soundbar." A very sensible an accurate name. Then in 2022, Sennheiser launched the Ambeo Soundbar Plus, which despite the name, was a smaller version of the original—which prompted the original to switch names to "Sennheiser Ambeo Max Soundbar."

So the long and the short of it is that Sennheiser's new Ambeo Mini takes its rightful place, with the correct name, in Sennheiser's soundbar naming nomenclature.

Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Mini Specs

The Ambeo Soundbar Mini has a much smaller footprint than its older siblings, measuring 70 x 10 x 6.5cm compared to the 105 x .7.5 x 12.1cm Ambeo Soundbar Plus and the 126 x 13.5 x 17.1cm Ambeo Soundbar Max. As you can see from the sizes, the Mini really is almost half the size of the Max (Sennheiser claims it's "less than half the cubic volume.").

However, the Ambeo Soundbar Mini still packs in the hardware, delivering up to 250W to its four full-range drivers and dual four-inch subwoofers, which is a decent range of sound and power for a small package.

It also continues the finish and style of the previous Ambeo Soundbars, with a smooth-to-the-touch plastic and textured cloth covering the drivers. It looks good, and most importantly, it looks like the whole soundbar was carefully constructed (not by hand, but you get what I mean).

Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Mini Features

The Ambeo Soundbar Mini still includes all the features you expect from a Sennheiser audio product. The build quality is there, but you also have features like Ambeo's trademark 3D sound, which helps calculate and fill any room with a calibrated level of sound, taking into account size, audio reflection, textures, and more.

Despite the drop in size, the Ambeo Soundbar Mini still supports Dolby Atmos, along with DTS:X and MPEG-H. The combination allows the Mini to still deliver faithful 360-degree soundscapes courtesy of Reality Audio.

How Much Does the Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Mini Cost?

Well, given the Ambeo Soundbar Mini is half the size, it's almost half the price, coming in at $800—the next size up, Ambeo Soundbar Plus, retails for $1,500.

Should You Buy the Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Mini?

Despite being much smaller than the full-sized Ambeo Soundbar Max, the Ambeo Soundbar Mini still packs a considerable punch. Our preview of the Mini made it clear that although it's smaller, it hasn't lost any of Sennheiser's trademark audio quality. Switching on the Ambeo mode enables the speaker to calibrate automatically to the room, creating a unique sound profile that helps create an exceptional, and importantly, accurate sound.

The biggest change is obviously the size of the soundbar—creating a much smaller version of the Ambeo Soundbar range should mean that more people can bring a soundbar of this quality into their living room rather than worrying about how to fit in one of its larger siblings.
