Chris Martin wrote Fix You to try and put Gwyneth Paltrow 'back together' after dad died
Health guru Gwyneth Paltrow said her ex Chris Martin’s song, Fix You, helped her deal with her grief after her dad died.
Gwyneth Paltrow‘s father, Bruce, was a film director and producer. He passed away in 2002 at the age of just 58 from complications of pneumonia while battling throat cancer. The 43-year-old was close to her father, and paid tribute to him in her cookbook nine years later. She explained she had learned to cook with her father in her book, My Father’s Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes, Celebrating Family and Togetherness. Gwyneth Paltrow went on to meet Coldplay frontman Christ Martin three weeks later, and when he wrote Fix You, it was actually about him trying to help his future wife.

Chris Martin wrote Gwyneth Paltrow a song – Fix You
Gwyneth met the music star a mere few weeks after her dad died. They hit it off and ended up marrying in 2003 and went on to share two children together, Apple and Moses. The celebrity couple eventually split in 2014, but appear to be on good terms.
The celebrity said when he father passed, she would listen to a lot of the band and it’d help her as she tried to navigate her heartbreaking grief.
In an interview on Sirius XM satellite radio, with My Favorite Song with John Benjamin Hickey in 2016, she explained how the Coldplay album Parachutes made a difference.
And one song really struck a chord with her, Everything’s Not Lost.
She said: “He wrote this song before I met him, and I think another reason it’s sad for me is my father had just died when this album came out, and we used to listen to it kind of on repeat… especially this song at the end.
“This album was kind of getting my brother and I through that death.”
But Chris Martin wrote Fix You about Gwyneth Paltrow too.
“‘Fix You’ was about him trying to put me back together after my dad died,” the actress said about Martin in an interview on The Howard Stern Show in 2015. “I think it’s pretty nice.”
Goop founder said singer was ‘very different’ from her other exes
It’s been 10 years since Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin called it quits, and it’s still a shock for hardcore fans who were shipping the couple since the start.
The Iron Man star still has love for her ex-husband though, and told Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast he was different to any of her past relationships.
She revealed: “When I met him, there was a very deep thing there.
“And I couldn’t quite put my finger on it because it felt very different than my other relationships.”
“It’s not so much that the relationship itself turned out to be healthier than my other relationships,” the Se7en star added.
“It’s just that I think I had this deep calling on some level. I knew he was going to be the father of my kids, maybe or something. It was a very strong feeling.”
Although it wasn’t meant to be.
“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate,” the couple announced of their breakup at the time.
“We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate. …
We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.”
