Adam Sandler, aka the quintessential face of American comedy credits his late father as one of the most positive influences in his career. Adam talked about how his father talking him out of a job helped him find his path in comedy and build a successful career in showbiz.

The great American comedy scene is incomplete without Adam Sandler’s huge contribution to it but many fans are not aware that growing up, Adam had a different goal all along. The celebrity comedian’s father was the person who talked him out of his childhood aim which led to his grand story of success.

Adam Sandler’s success comes down to his dad

While Adam Sandler has established himself as the face of American comedy for decades, turns out that he really wanted to be something else growing up. Adam shared on a TV show that he really wanted to join the military and at the age of 15, he told his parents about his plan.

The actor recounted: “My whole life when I was a kid, I was like I am going to be in the military, I am going to defend our country, that’s all I talked about. And then I was like 15 and at the dinner table, I said the same speech, ‘I can’t wait to join the military’ and then my father goes, ‘You are not joining the military.'”

Adam further quipped how the conversation went down revealing when he asked his father why he couldn’t join the military, he responded, ’cause you are a p****!” He added that his lack of physical stamina did not go unnoticed by his father who talked him out of his grand plan.

Adam Sandler’s tribute to his late father

The movie star’s gradual success in the American comedy scene is an inspiring story, and Adam Sandler has shown his love for his father even through his comedic ventures. The Chanukah Song crooner put up his dad’s photo as the logo for his production company, Happy Madison.

Adam also imitates his late father Stanley Sandler’s voice in the production promo, saying the word terrific exactly like he would have. While Adam lost his father to lung cancer in 2003, he went on to find numerous ways to pay tribute to his father’s positive attributes through his work and more.

Hustle’s Stanley Sugarman was partly influenced by his father

Even after two decades of Adam losing his father, he is finding ways to keep his memory alive. The 56-year-old TV legend shared in a podcast that his Hustle character name Stanley Sugarman is a tribute to his father.

The fictional character also shares a number of characteristics with his late father including being dedicated, hard-working, and deeply passionate about coaching him and his friends in different sports.
